LINKS
The Woodland Owl Pouch is a no-sew bag for holding small trinkets and tiny treasures when exploring the forest. It’s nifty, eco-friendly, can be attached to a keyring or keychain, and used as a backpack or purse accessory. The design features textured puff stitches made of dc clusters for the owl’s belly, as well as big round eyes, colored wings, and a hanging loop. It’s the perfect birthday gift or Christmas holiday gift for animal lovers who have a penchant for whimsical styles!

Yarn
Worsted weight (#4) yarn is recommended for this pattern. I used Hobbii's Upcycled Alpaca Blend, which is a limited edition and unfortunately may be discontinued in the near future. Other yarn recommendations I have for this pattern include:
- Lion Brand Heartland (100% acrylic and has many natural, heathered shades that would give a similarly rustic vibe)
- Lion Brand's 24/7 Cotton Yarn (100% cotton and will produce beautiful stitch definition)
- Brava Worsted (100% acrylic, sturdy, and pretty good bang for your buck!)
Crossbody Bag
Want a crossbody bag version of this pouch? Check out the Magic-Owl Bag or the Mini Magic-Owl Bag!
The top of these bags are pulled up to reveal the bag's opening! They're also very nifty for storing little treasures..

Place the wrong side of the “Back” to the wrong side of the “Front”. We will now crochet around the owl, starting with the handle.
HANDLE & EDGING
Ch 24 (or however long you want the handle to be). Sl st to the other side of R14.- Sc around the “head” portion in C3 yarn, going into both the front and back layers in the last row of C3.
- Switch to C2 yarn after you finish crocheting down the side of the “head” and get to the dc-cluster “body” section. Ch 3 and insert 3 dc in the same ch-3 space. Make sure you’re going into both the front and back layers for this part. Continue around the owl’s body, inserting 3 dc in each row. Ch 3, sl st into the last ch-3 row.
- Switch to C3 yarn. Sc across the head towards the handle. Insert a sl st in each ch until you reach the end. FO with a tail and weave in the ends.
EYE PATCHES (x2)
Use C1 yarn.R1: In a MR, ch 2 and insert 12 dc. Join with a sl st to the first dc. Tighten the ring. (12)
FO with a tail for sewing to the head later.
EYEBROWS & BEAK
Use C2 or C4 yarn.Finishing Instructions
- Gather the eye patches and the owl pouch.
- Attach 12mm plastic safety eyes (or buttons) to the center of the eye patches, going into the Head as well. This way, the eyes keep the eye patches in place and sewing the patches to the head is not necessary. (I attached the eyes between R9-R10 of the Head.)
- If the no-sew method was used for the eyebrows, simply get some C2 or C4 yarn and embroider a short and thick line for the beak between the eyes.
- If the chain method was used for the eyebrows, place the eyebrows/beak over and between the eyes. Once satisfied with placement, sew this piece down.
- Lastly, cut some lengths of the C3 yarn and tie as a tassel to the bottom edging of the owl. Make two tassels.
