Taki the Toucan · Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Looking for a fun and colorful amigurumi project? You might like this one -- my low-sew Taki the Toucan!

LINKS

Taki the Toucan is an adorable tropical bird amigurumi pattern that is quick and easy to work up. The head, body, tail, and legs all crocheted together with no-sew methods. The only sewing required is to attach the beak to the head.

This stuffed animal toy can stand on its own, and would make a great keychain, last-minute birthday gift or Christmas holiday present. Since it’s a fast and beginner-friendly pattern, it’s also suitable for stocking up as a product for craft fairs and markets!

About the Pattern

  • Easy / beginner-friendly
  • Works up quickly
  • Almost no-sew
  • Easy to customize
  • Stashbuster project; great for using up yarn scraps
  • Can be turned into a keychain

Look at that cute little tail!

Uses

There are many ways to make use of this pattern, such as:
  • Keychain: add a keyring
  • Ornament: add a hanging loop for your Christmas tree and give your toucan a tiny Santa hat!
  • Christmas stocking stuffer
  • Party favors
  • Gift: for family and friends as a gender neutral and unisex birthday gift, Christmas holiday gift, or anytime gift!
  • "Pocket pal" or fidget: suitable as a portable therapy aid or security toy for kids and bear-loving adults. They can also be “worry dolls” to ease nerves and anxiety. Make them for children with autism, sensory needs, or other special needs to calm down and self-regulate by holding onto it and practicing breathing.
  • Craft fair product: sell it at markets; it's the perfect market prep pattern to work up because it's fast and easy! Great for summer markets and in tropical regions!

Yarn

This mini amigurumi is designed with super bulky velvet chenille yarn, which gives it a really plush and soft look! I used Hobbii's Toucan Yarn (nice name, right?) and love the results!

However, if you'd like to make a smaller version, which could be the perfect size for a keychain to attach to a backpack, purse, or tote bag, you can use this same pattern with a thinner yarn! Try worsted medium weight 4 or DK yarn and a smaller crochet hook.

My worsted weight yarn recommendations are:
