Pyramid Chicken · Free Crochet Pattern

Do you remember the viral granny square chicken I released more than two years ago? That was a fun make that many of you enjoyed, but guess what! There's a NEW chicken in town. Let's say hi to the... Pyramid Chickens!

Links

The Pyramid Chickens is a no-sew version of the popular “granny square chicken” pattern by Sweet Softies! These are quick and easy to work up, and crocheted in the round like amigurumi.

I've designed THREE different pyramid chickens. There's the:
  1. Original Pyramid Chicken
  2. Feet-Out Pyramid Chicken
  3. Baby Pyramid Chick
Below is the Baby Chick and the Original Chicken:

About the Pattern

  • Easy / beginner-friendly
  • Works up quickly
  • Stashbuster project; great for using up leftover yarn scraps
  • The Original Pyramid Chicken is available as a FREE video tutorial and written pattern
  • All three Pyramid Chicken patterns are also available as a 3-in-1 printable and ad-free PDF pattern with photo references
Below is the Feet-Out Chicken:

Uses

There are many ways to make use of this pattern, such as:
  • Keychain: add a keyring
  • Ornament: add a hanging loop to turn it into a hanging ornament for your car rearview mirror or as a Christmas tree ornament
  • Scent Sachet: stuff it with a satchel of lavender (or your favorite scent) to make it into a soothing diffuser for your car, office, or room
  • Pin cushion: just stick in your pins to have it serve as a pincushion
  • Gift: for family and friends as a stocking stuffer for the holidays. (The baby chick would make a great Easter egg stuffer too!)
  • Craft fair product: sell it at markets; it's the perfect market prep pattern to work up because it's quick, easy, no-sew, and will surely garner attention from its cuteness!

Yarn

They are designed with super bulky weight 6 chenille velvet yarn for a plush look. I recommend Honey Bunny or Baby Snuggle yarn, as it's very soft and velvety. This pattern can also be crocheted using other fibers, such as acrylic and/or cotton yarn!

Below is a birds-eye-view of the Feet-Out Chicken. Doesn't it look like a funny triangle?

    The Original Granny Square Chicken

The Pyramid Chickens are an alternative of my original design, the free Granny Square Chicken pattern. This chicken was made using two granny squares, cleverly stitched together. Later on, I also designed the free Plush Granny Square Chicken pattern, which works up quickly and has much smaller gaps between the stitches compared to my first design! These patterns are great for using up granny squares, or for making multi-colored chicken with beautiful color combinations!

      PDF Pattern

The PDF pattern is printable, ad-free, easy to read, includes photo references, and helps support Sweet Softies! (If you enjoy my free patterns, you can consider it as a donation to me when you buy one of my pattern PDFs! This pattern is a 3-in-1 pattern that includes instructions for all three Pyramid Chickens! (The free version does not have photo references and only includes the Original Pyramid Chicken.)
