Ocean Pals Playset · Free Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Crochet your own no-sew underwater adventure with this Ocean Pals Playset pattern bundle! This design includes patterns for three adorable sea creatures—a fish, octopus, and sea turtle—plus a drawstring playmat that doubles as a carrying bag. Perfect for gifting, travel, or craft fairs, this yarn-efficient project uses just two skeins of Lion Brand Landscapes Breeze yarn to create beautiful, gradient amigurumi toys.

The Ocean Pals Playset is a no-sew crochet toy set featuring three adorable underwater creatures and a versatile playmat that transforms into a drawstring bag! With this fun and functional pattern bundle, you’ll be able to crochet a realistic fish, octopus, and sea turtle. These stuffed animals are perfectly sized to fit inside the drawstring pouch for easy storage and portability — great for travel or tidy playtime!

Below are the three stars of the set: a realistic-looking goldfish, octopus, and sea turtle. They're just the right size for small hands to hold and play with.

Place them in the ocean bag, and cinch up the top! Don’t you love how portable this crochet set is? You can take it anywhere and open it up for your little one to have some pretend play fun. Great for taking out to the park, in the waiting room for appointments, during travel, or even at a restaurant to keep little hands busy. The drawstring playmat doubles as a handy storage bag, making toy cleanup a breeze and helping you keep all the pieces together. It’s a fun and functional toy that encourages imaginative play wherever you go!

About the Pattern

  • Quick
  • Easy
  • No-sew
  • Designed with medium weight 4 yarn (but can be supersized with bulky yarn or made smaller with thinner yarn)
  • Available as a printable PDF pattern download and a free written pattern! (Scroll down for the free pattern links)

Uses

This sea creature set makes a perfect handmade birthday gift, Christmas or holiday present, or a best-seller at craft fairs. The toys are unisex and gender-neutral, making them great for both boys and girls.

You can also make the individual amigurumis as a keychain (by adding a keyring), hanging ornament (like car rearview mirror ornaments), or item for charity (check out Random Acts of Kindness Crochet or your local nonprofit organization)!

Yarn

Designed with just two skeins of Lion Brand Landscapes Breeze yarn, this project makes the most of your materials. The stunning, multicolor yarn effortlessly creates beautiful ombré gradients in both the amigurumi and the bag. It’s delightfully economical: use one full skein for the ocean bag, and part of the second skein for the animals — with enough left over to crochet additional sea creatures for your collection. More free ocean-themed amigurumi patterns (and even a free printable adoption certificate) are available on the Sweet Softies blog if you'd like to expand your underwater world!

While the Landscapes Breeze yarn is a beautiful choice for this project, I also recommend the very durable 24/7 Cotton if you'd like to crochet these amigurumi in solid colors instead. This cotton yarn has a slight sheen and would produce crisp stitch definition without pilling or fuzzing up, giving the animals the ability to hold up well even after years of play.
