The Maisie Bow design shows off a beautiful texture while maintaining an elegant hairbow shape. The Maisie Bow can be made into a hair clip, hair tie, keychain, or other accessory. It also serves as an adorable applique for embellishing other projects. Since it is quick and easy to crochet, it makes a great last-minute birthday gift or Christmas holiday stocking stuffer for little girls! They are also suitable for selling at craft fairs.
About the Pattern
- Works up quickly
- Versatile with different yarn weights and hook sizes
- Style tags: vintage, fairytale, cottagecore, kawaii.
Uses
There are many ways to make use of this pattern, such as:
- Keychain: add a keyring.
- Greeting card decor: cute to add onto baby shower cards or birthday cards.
- Gift: for family and friends as a birthday gift, Christmas holiday gift, or anytime gift! Make this pattern in an array of different yarn colors to create a "bundle" of hair bows.
- Craft fair product: sell it at markets; it's the perfect market prep pattern to work up because it's a relatively fast pattern to work up.
- Random Act of Kindness: crochet it for charity or as a random act of kindness to hide in the community.
Yarn
You can crochet the Maisie Bow with different yarn weights and fibers to create different looks! Want a large bow? Use super bulky weight yarn with a large hook. Want a petite, little bow? Use thin yarn and/or a small hook!
The two bows below are both made using the same weight yarn (sport weight #2 yarn), but crocheted using different size hooks. The pink bow on the left was made using a 4mm hook, and the yellow bow on the right was made using a 3.5mm hook. Despite using the same weight yarn, a different size hook can result in differences in size!
You can also experiment with different types of fibers. The yarn I used for the Maisie Bows here consist of cotton and linen, which provide crisp stitch definition. However, you can make velvety, plush bows using chenille yarn (such as Hobbii Honey Bunny Yarn). You can also crochet furry, fluffy bows using textured yarn such as Lion Brand Yarn's Feels like Bliss Yarn.

- Pinch the center of the ribbon and place it at the bow’s center. Wrap the bow’s long yarn tail around the ribbon’s center a couple times. Use a yarn needle to sew the ribbon to the bow, securing it well.
- Finally, take the center strip and wrap it tightly around the middle of the bow. (Optional: add a hair tie inside the center strip if desired.) Sew the ends of the center strip securely to the bow.
- If desired, turn your bow into a hair accessory by attaching a clip, hair tie, or band to the back of the bow. (You can also use this bow as an applique or embellishment to an assortment of other projects.
- Weave in all ends. Congratulations on finishing your Maisie Bow!
