DIY New Year's decorations

Shops are overflowing with New Year's decorations, so why bother making something yourself? But factory-made items are often faceless, while handmade items have a history and are imbued with the spirit of their creator.

Such crafts can become family heirlooms, carrying the memory of generations and filling you with joy at the mere mention of them. So don't be lazy, get the whole family together and make something truly amazing.

Spectacular mini Christmas trees

At the top of our list are bright, colourful and truly festive mini Christmas trees. They will delight the whole family year after year and can be a great memorable gift.

How to make it: use hot glue to attach bright Christmas tree decorations to pre-prepared foam cones. Work from the bottom up, placing large balls first and moving on to smaller ones as you approach the top. Fill any remaining gaps with small decorative balls, and you can also wrap the trees with garlands and festive tinsel.

Candlesticks

New Year's candlesticks are perfect for decorating a festive table or mantelpiece. And accompanied by lit candles, they will look even more impressive.

Book tree

Bookshelves can be transformed in their own way for New Year's celebrations. An interesting solution would be a tree made of book spines of the appropriate colour. The traditional New Year's colours are green and red, but this is a time of magic and experimentation, so you can always rely on your imagination. And you can always add a few toys, pine cones and figurines to the composition. This will make your creation even more visually interesting. The downside of this craft is that it is a one-time thing, but nothing prevents you from capturing it in photos and videos.

Gingerbread decorations

Not everyone knows this, but Christmas tree decorations can be very tasty. Yes, we are talking about gingerbread cookies, which not only look great and are a pleasant snack, but also smell wonderful, filling the room with the fragrant New Year aromas of ginger, cinnamon and cardamom. Don't forget to make a hole for the ribbon before baking, for which a cocktail straw will be very helpful. Once they're done, you can pour multicoloured icing over them to add even more variety to your decor.

The easiest thing to do is to hang the biscuits on the Christmas tree as individual decorations. But you can also string them together with ribbon to create a beautiful, appetising garland. Or you can go further and create a real composition in the form of a New Year's gingerbread village, using powdered sugar as snow. Of course, this decoration is a little complicated and cannot be passed down through generations, but such baking can become a good family tradition with its own secret recipes.

Festive calligraphy

A very simple but interesting way to quickly decorate your hallway is to write on the mirror. White ink works perfectly, but you can also use stickers. This way, you will be greeted by a festive atmosphere right from the entrance, and it is also a good place for family photos. You can take an annual group photo in a similar style and even create a small themed album.
